Housing issues in our community are unique and complex.
According to the Lake County Planning Commission, 51% of the homeless in our
neighborhoods are children under the age of 8. National data indicate that
children are the fastest growing homeless population. The study also
indicates that 42% of the homeless are victims of domestic violence.
All of the homes are furnished with gently used furniture
and little storage is available. Each head of the household is responsible
for paying rent monthly. The rent includes all utilities, except telephone
and cable television. The homes are located in and around the Painesville
area.
As with most of Lake County’s services, there is a
waiting list for the housing component of our program. We start each client
in their individualized self-sufficiency program as soon as we receive their
application. After completion of the initial program requirements, clients
are eligible for housing as it becomes available.
New Directions for Living focuses on helping clients
develop their individual potential and achieve their hopes and dreams for a
better life.
